ISLAMABAD, Nov 6: ARD chairman Makhdoom Amin Fahim and PML-N acting parliamentary leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Monday submitted a fresh application to Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain asking him to issue orders for production of jailed ARD leader Makhdoomm Javed Hashmi.

ARD parliamentary secretary Izhar Amrohvi told Dawn that the application had been submitted ahead of an important National Assembly session starting from November 10. During the session the government would bring important legislative business, including the controversial Women Protection Bill, in the lower house.

Mr Hashmi is also acting president of the PML-N and the speaker has been requested to enable him represent people of his constituency (NA-123, Lahore) in the assembly. Mr Hashmi is undergoing a 27-year sentence in Kot Lakhpat Jail on treason charges and his appeal against the sentence has been pending for many months.

Opposition members have been demanding of the speaker to issue Mr Hashmi s production order since he was arrested from the Parliament Lodges on October 29, 2003 when the National Assembly was in session.

ADJOURNMENT MOTION: Members of the ARD on Monday submitted an adjournment motion to the National Assembly Secretariat seeking a debate on a report that decision had been taken to hand over tax jobs to army personnel.
