DERA GHAZI KHAN, Nov 5: Time is ripe for street agitation as army generals have tarnished the sovereignty of Pakistan by allowing US attack in Bajaur agency.

This was said by former prime minister Mian Nawaz Sharif here on Sunday in his telephonic speech on the eve of divisional convention of PML-N.

Central and provincial leaders of the party, including Punjab president Zulfiqar Ali Khosa, were also present.

He said: “It is time that we should shun cowardice and take to the street to send army back to barracks as generals have sold the country. The killings of Baloch leader Nawab Akbar Bugti and innocent people in Bajaur are its ample evidence.”

He alleged that military rule had always brought about crises, starting from selling of rivers (Indus Basin Treaty), debacle of East Pakistan, occupation of Siachin and now killings in Bajaur.

The ex-premier said army had weakened the federation while poverty, lawlessness and unemployment had assumed alarming proportions. Nawaz Sharif claimed that he had rejected the government’s offer for a deal.

Earlier, the district police dismantled all arrangements made by the DG Khan chapter of the party and did not accept the direction of district naib nazim Dost Muhammad Khosa, who is also district president of PML-N.

Law-enforcement agencies along with policemen raided the venue at 2am on Sunday and ransacked the furniture on which the DG Khan naib nazim talked to DPO Inkasar Khan but to no avail. Later, the party made arrangements at a nearby walled place.
