QUETTA, Oct 28: A man was killed and 21 others were injured in a powerful bomb explosion outside a fast food centre near the police headquarters on Gulistan Road here on Saturday.

The victims were sitting outside the fast food centre when the bomb exploded, causing panic in the area.

“A young man died on the spot of a head injury,” hospital sources said, adding that the condition of two of the injured was critical.

According to witnesses, a large number of people were taking tea and having food when the explosion took place.

A bicycle rose in the air after the explosion and a vehicle caught fire, while other vehicles and motorcycles were also badly damaged, Taslim Shah, a trainee police officer, told Dawn in Civil Hospital.

Doctors in the hospital said one Asmatullah was killed. He had gone to the Global Centre for taking tea from Killi Kotwal area with his brother and friends, who also received injuries. Some of the injured, including two children, were taken to private hospitals.

“The bomb had been planted with a timer under the bicycle’s seat,” a police officer, Shaban Ali, said. At least five vehicles and over a dozen motorcycles were destroyed.
