KARACHI, Oct 28: Sporadic rains and dust storm were reported from various parts of the city on Saturday, officials at the meteorological department and residents of different localities confirmed.

According to officials at the met office, low pressure in northwest of the city and local heating effect created an isolated system, which caused paltry rains and dust storms in different parts of the city. “That system was isolated and had no follow-up effect which could cause further rains,” said a met office expert.

The met office recorded minimum and maximum temperatures at 24 and 38 degrees centigrade in the city on Saturday. Partly cloudy weather has been forecast for the city on Sunday with minimum temperature expected at 24 degrees centigrade.

Residents of North Karachi Baldia, Federal B Area, SITE, parts of North Nazimabad and Orangi Town were shocked with the sudden rainfall and storm on Saturday evening.

“It happened in moments,” Mohammad Arif, a resident of Block-16 of Federal B Area said. “Suddenly dust struck our area with a bang and rain came but it ended a few minutes later,” he said.

A resident of Baldia Town said the rain had made the roads and streets slippery, which were dangerous particularly for the bike riders.

“It creates problems for us whether a rain is heavy or paltry,” he said.

A spokesman of the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation said the KESC’s system remained intact and unaffected during the rain and storm.
