President calls for national unity

ISLAMABAD, Oct 24: President Pervez Musharraf has urged the nation to stand united on issues of national importance, support the government and counter the propaganda of those having negative tendencies.

“I expect of you to stand united on every issue of national importance, support the government and show it to the world that the Pakistani nation is strong, courageous and determined and fully aware of the demands of modern times,” the president said in his message to the nation on Eidul Fitr.

He said rapid changes were being brought about in every sphere of life and many nations across the world were endeavouring for dominance in every area.

He said terrorism, extreme practices and similar thoughts were based on ignorance and were deceptive and contrary to the Islamic teachings.

“We will have to present the greatness of our religion Islam in a sagacious manner to counter the misleading propaganda of those possessing negative tendencies,” he said.

He said there was a need to encourage feelings of brotherhood, love and tolerance leading to the establishment of a truly Islamic society.

Extending his heartfelt greetings to the nation, he said the best way to thank the Almighty was not only to acknowledge his endless favours but also to focus on ways to spend the days according to His teachings.

The day also demanded of us to help the poor so that they might join us in celebrating the day, he said.—APP
