Refund vouchers dispatched

Published October 24, 2006

KARACHI, Oct 23: The Medium Taxpayer Unit (MUT) Karachi has dispatched around 4,000 refund vouchers to ensure that taxpayers get the refund amount before Eid.

The refund amount belongs to tax year 2006 and the MUT has processed the claims immediately after receiving tax returns on September 30.

This is for the first time in the history of the CBR that refunds are being sent to taxpayers without filing claims and that too for immediate tax period.

These refund vouchers mostly belong to amounts below Rs10,000 and belong to salaried class. After verification of challans including audit of tax return, the MUT immediately prepared refund vouchers to ensure that taxpayers received the amount before Eid.

Income Tax Bar Association Karachi President Ali Rahim and All Pakistan Tax Bar Association Younus Rizwani appreciated the move and said that this would go a long way in improving and building confidence of taxpayers on the revenue collecting departments.
