LAHORE, Oct 23: The Pakistan People’s Party wants to perpetuate its role in politics with the support of dictatorship and is double-crossing the opposition, says Liaquat Baloch of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA).

In a press statement on Sunday, Mr Baloch said the PPP would not get anything out of deal with the military dictators. By talking to the military rulers and trying to squeeze a deal out if it, the party is only damaging the opposition’s struggle, he said.

Gen Pervez Musharraf has become a security risk for the country, he said and added: “The country is faced with dangers — both internal and external. Federating units are becoming increasingly uneasy and the federation is facing pressures. The dictatorship of Gen Pervez Musharraf has failed on all domestic and foreign fronts and the country is under intense pressure of illogical demands of the west.”

“The Nato forces now want a corridor for their operations in Afghanistan and the government, in all probability, will bow to that pressure. Gen Pervez Musharraf would not hold next elections transparent and fair. That is why the Opposition is insisting on his removal before the polls. The MMA is guarding the Islamic identity of the country and will continue doing that.” —Staff Reporter
