Published October 22, 2006

LAHORE, Oct 21: Punjab Information Technology Minister Abdul Aleem Khan has said the IT sector is developing fast in Punjab and a number of projects are under way under public-private partnership across the province.

Talking to a delegation of IT experts here on Saturday, he said 50 per cent annual growth was being observed in the sector owing to the initiatives taken by the present government. He said that new jobs were being created in the IT sector, and it would witness a revolution within the next three years. He also said the establishment of IT park would pave the way for a new era of computer technology.

Mr Khan said the computer knowledge was being promoted, especially in far-flung areas, and a district-wise strategy had been evolved to achieve the government objectives.

He said the chief minister had entered into an agreement with a UN body for providing computers as well as related education to the students in Punjab. In the coming years, he hoped the province would be leading in IT sector and local experts would be able to fully compete in the international market.

He said the IT department was also engaged in computerisation of other departments that would enhance their performance. —Staff Reporter
