TANK, Oct 21: The ongoing peace process in Waziristan tribal areas will have a deep impact on the area as well as the region, says Senator Maulana Saleh Shah. Addressing a press conference on Saturday, he described the initiatives made by NWFP Governor Ali Muhammad Jan Aurakzai for lasting solution of problems in the agency as successful.

The senator, who is also member of the North Waziristan grand jirga, said it was for the first time that local issues had been addressed.

Referring to the North Waziristan accord, he said the governor had evolved a consensus among people on a mutually acceptable solution of old issues.

He pointed out that Nato forces had also signed a pact with elders in the Afghan province of Helmand on the pattern of the Waziristan accord.

Maulana Shah urged the world community to ensure that no skirmishes took place across the troubled region.

He said the statements issued by some of the foreign countries could be harmful to the peace accord.

He deplored intrusion by the Afghan allied forces into Pakistani territory, which has claimed several lives and damaged property.—APP
