Rain affects Eid shopping

Published October 20, 2006

LAHORE, Oct 19: Electricity supply was once again the first casualty of a dust storm and rain in the city on Thursday evening.

Power supply to several localities was cut off as the dusk was approaching, which affected Eid shopping.

The storm having a maximum gust of 62km an hour was accompanied with thunder. The rain, however, quickly settled the dust but made the roads deserted.

The showers continued till night as motorcyclists faced a great deal of inconvenience in reaching their destinations. The temperature recorded a visible decline.

According to the meteorological office, the storm and the rain were generated by a strong westerly system that also created similar weather conditions in the central and northern Punjab, Islamabad, the NWFP and the Northern Areas.

The maximum temperature in Lahore was 30.8 degrees Celsius and the minimum 19.8 degrees Celsius. The Met office expected more rain in the city during the next 24 hours.
