KARACHI, Oct 17: Special security measures to be taken around places of worship and in markets during Eid shopping in the remaining days of Ramazan and to control street crime came under review at a high-level meeting presided over by Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan on Tuesday.

The meeting was attended by Home Adviser Waseem Akhtar, the DG of Rangers, the IG and other senior officials.

On the occasion, the home adviser briefed the governor on the security measures taken.

The governor called for taking fool-proof steps for security in bazaars during Eid shopping and at places of worship in the last eight days of Ramazan.

In the meeting a coordinated strategy also came under consideration to control street crime as directed by the prime minister.

The governor issued directive for beefing up the motorcycle force to effectively cope with street crime. He pointed out that street crime was also taking place in other cities of the country, but in view of Karachi being the country's major metropolis, our responsibilities increased.

He stressed on increased mobility of the intelligence network to control crime throughout the province.

The governor appreciated the traffic arrangements this year and said there had been significant decline in complaints of traffic jams.

He called for continued focus on this aspect as well as measures to be taken to ensure traffic movement during Eid shopping.

Meanwhile, in another meeting, the use of surveillance cameras was examined to make security measures more effective.

In this regard, the governor emphasised the need for taking advantage of technology with regard to high security zones and enforcement of traffic rules.—APP
