KARACHI, Oct 16: Police have decided in principle to link its driving licence system with the National Database & Registration Authority whereby complete information about traffic violations would be available.

This was stated in a meeting held under the chairmanship of IGP Jehangir Mirza on Monday. The meeting was attended by Home Secretary, CCPO Karachi, DIG Headquarters, DIG Traffic besides SSP Traffic Zone II and DSP Driving Licence Branch, Clifton.

In the meeting, a three-member Nadra delegation highlighted in detail the far reaching results obtained from the system.

Under the system, it was informed that a particular RFID number will be allotted to all driving licences while traffic officers will be provided PDAs for making identification and entries of RFID and later with its help provide all record of RFID licence chip to central server for compilation as database.

The delegation informed that photograph of the new applicant coming for obtaining a driving licence and entire relevant information will be supplied to NADRA database for authentication and preservation.

The project will be introduced in the province in three phases with two-month agreement with driving licence branches Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur and six-month agreement with remaining districts in the second phase.

In third phase, there will be initiation of ticketing system in PDA and issuance of RFID driving licence number to people.
