KARACHI, Feb 14: Administrations of almost all public co-educational institutions, including colleges, Karachi University and NED University, on Thursday barred their students from celebrating Valentine’s Day, fearing eruption of riots among different groups.

Principals of almost all co-educational intermediate colleges in the city, remained vigilant with their teaching staff and barred their students from indulging themselves in any activity for observing Valentine’s Day, students complained.

Students were warned of stringent measures if they were found pasting any kind of posters on college walls and exchange of flowers between boys and girls students, various students at BSc colleges said.

Karachi University also adopted tight security measures to prevent any untoward incident at the campus and rangers remained vigilant.

Clashes and exchange of hot words were reported among rival groups at the KU on the issue of Valentine’s Day celebrations, but no serious damages were reported.

The NED University also adopted strict security measures, disallowing its students to celebrate or organize any activity in the name of Valentine’s Day.—PPI
