ISLAMABAD, Oct 13: Security agencies went on alert on Friday after two mosques and five Imam Bargahs were declared ‘sensitive’ in the Federal Capital Territory, Dawn has learnt.

It has been decided to compile complete bio-data of the people who are sitting in mosques for long night prayers (Aitikaf) during Ramazan.

Though the 671 mosques and 32 Imam Bargahs in the capital are being covered by armed guards during prayers times specially Traveeh and Fajar Prayers, but the district administration declared two mosques — Faisal Mosque and Lal Masjid — as ‘sensitive’ and has decided to deploy police contingents there.

A security source said that one well-equipped police reserve will be deployed at Faisal Mosque, while half-a-dozen personnel at Lal Masjid.

Similar contingency plan has been chalked out for the five Imam Bargahs which have been declared ‘sensitive’ by the district administration.

Likewise, all other mosques would be guarded by plain-cloth security officials of the Special Branch Islamabad.

Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Sikandar Hayat, on contact, said: “We have been giving security cover to all the mosques and Imam Bargahs with security guards as well as with police personnel.”

The SSP said mosques have been divided into three categories A, B and C. The mosques in category-A would be guarded by armed police contingent, category-B mosques would be covered by half-a- dozen police personnel while the category-C would be guarded by security guards.

Whereas, the SSP said, the Imam Bargahs would be guarded by police personnel. Police patrolling have also been intensified in the capital during Ramazan.

Mr Hayat said the counting of people who are sitting in mosques for Aitikaf while the bio-data of some of them who were considered ‘important’ would be noted.
