Islamabad searching for more rockets

RAWALPINDI, Oct 12: Security agencies are desperately trying to find a fourth pair of rockets which they believe is still lying somewhere in Islamabad, it is learnt.

A few days ago, one rocket of a pair exploded in Ayub Park in Rawalpindi near the official residence of President Gen Pervez Musharraf. Two other pairs were found later, one near the Parliament House and the other near the ISI headquarters.

After seizing the third pair of rockets on Saturday, security agencies and the ICT police had launched the search for the fourth pair. Some 2,000 security personnel had combed the green area but they found nothing.

It was decided that Rangers should be called out to strengthen security in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT). Some 700 Rangers personnel and 450 Frontier Constabulary (FC) troops have since been deployed at sensitive places.

Rangers pickets have been established at Pir Sohawa and Daman-i-Koh. The paramilitary personnel have also been deployed at different points on the Margalla Hills.

Large searchlights have been fixed at hilltops and the entire hilly area has been divided into security zones, known as red, blue and yellow.

People going towards Pir Sohawa and Daman-i-Koh undergo strict check by FC personnel. Police patrol has been intensified.

The Islamabad Capital Territory and Rawalpindi police have registered separate cases of rockets’ recovery and explosion. Some suspects have been taken into custody by intelligence agencies.
