Ashraf, Umer steer Arambagh to semis

KARACHI, Oct 11: Ashraf and Umer steered Arambagh Club to an emphatic 39-32 victory against Karachi Colts in the Neighbourhood United Ramazan basketball tournament at the formers floodlight court on Tuesday night.

The triumph helped the winners to make it to the semis from group ‘B’. Three teams – Neighbourhood Varsity, Neighbourhood first division and Bounce Club – had already qualified for the last four.

Ashraf (12) and Umer (8) were the main scorers for the winners while Raj Kumar (10), Salik and Azeem six apiece scored for losers.

In another match of academic interest youthful Nishtar Club got the better of National Club, a combination of veteran’s, 68-51.

Salman was the most outstanding player for winners scoring 20 points. He was ably assisted by Shabbar (15) and Aftab (14).

Ghulam Mohammad (16), Tariq Hussain (8) and Tahir (8) were the main contributors for losers.

Top two outfits of each group are to meet on late Wednesday night to determine the semi-final line up. The semi-finals will be played on Thursday to be followed by final next day.
