Six new police posts in Gujranwala

GUJRANWALA, Oct 11: At least six new police posts and seven organised crime wings have been established in seven towns of the district to curb organized and street crimes.

This was stated by DPO Mian Muhammad Asif while speaking at a press conference here on Wednesday.

The DPO pointed out that these police posts had been established at Head Khanki under Ahmad Nagar police station, Cheema Chowk (Sodara), Bridge Chandiala (Kamoke Sadar), Kangniwala (Sabzi Mandi), Jorra Sain (Ghakkhar Town) and Raj Kot (Dhulley).

Similarly, he said the organised crime wing had been set up at Aroop, Nandipur, Khiali Shahpur, Qila Dedar Singh and in three tehsils in Naushera Virkan, Kamoke and Wazirabad.

He said the police staff had also been deployed at new police posts while an experienced inspector/sub-inspector and crime fighters, eight to 10 in numbers, were likewise deputed there.

These wings would work under the command of DSP (investigation) Tahir Mahmood. He expressed the hope that these new initiatives would be helpful in controlling the crime and providing the protection of life and property of the people.

AWARDED: The local Anti-Terrorism Court No 2 handed down 49 years of imprisonment and fined Rs91,000 collectively to seven convicts for kidnapping a trader for ransom on Wednesday.

The court also awarded them five-year jail term with a fine of Rs10,000 each under section 365 PPC while two-year imprisonment with a fine of Rs3,000 each under section 13/20/65 PPC.

According to the prosecution, convicts Iqbal, Iftikhar, Bashir Haider, Ali Akbar, Noor Khan, Shah Khalid and Abdul Hafiz had kidnapped trader Amir Bajwa of Hajipura, Sialkot, and demanded Rs1.5 million ransom for his release.

However, the outlaws had released the trader after receiving Rs300,000. While police arrested the accused and submitted charge sheets against them in the ATC.

It may be mentioned that the court announced the decision within a year.

RECOVERED: A bailiff recovered a man and his son detained at the Satellite Town police station without registration of any case against them and produced them in the court here on Wednesday.

Reports said that complainant Shabana Firdous of Shaheenabad (Dhulley) moved court pleading that the police had picked up her husband Nasrullah Butt and son Zeeshan Butt from their house and detained them in the police station without any lawful authority.

The court summoned the SHO and the investigation officer on Thursday (today).

Protest: Students of Rachna College of Engineering and Technology on Wednesday protested against the administration for its failure to arrange institute’s affiliation with the Pakistan Engineering Council despite a laps of three years.

Protesting students also boycotted the classes and chanted slogans against the management.

They called upon Punjab Governor Punjab Khalid Maqbool to take immediate action to resolve their problem.

The college administration called the police that arrested some students, but they were released after a short while.

Reports said that about 50 college students would complete their courses during the next few months, but the institute has still not been affiliated with the PEC.

FINED: Around 40 drivers of smoke-emitting vehicles were fined by the traffic police here on Thursday.

Reports said that the traffic police, environment wing, set up a picket on the GT Road and fined drivers of almost all the smoke-emitting vehicles.

Meanwhile, transporters alleged that the traffic police started collecting Eidi behind the checking of vehicles.
