LARKANA, Oct 10: The District nazim of Larkana, Mohammad Bakhsh Arjio, is reported to have approached the provincial government to post a suitable person as the Executive District Officer (education) by relieving Shahnawaz Memon, the regional manager of colleges, Larkana, of his additional charge of EDO (education) Larkana.

Sources in the district government told this reporter on Tuesday that the district nazim had, in a letter to the secretary education on October 5, termed the performance of the EDO (education) unsatisfactory.

During his previous posting in 2003, the district government had on several occasions, moved for his transfer, the letter said.

The nazim said that the EDO (education) was ordering transfers without consulting him and in violation of the directives of the Election Commission of Pakistan “that no transfers are made till the completion of the computerised electoral rolls 2006-2007.”

The clash between the EDO (education) Larkana, and the district government has been going on for quite some time.

The local PML leadership is backing the district government while the EDO education was being supported by the education department.

The situation became tense when the district nazim objected over certain transfers.

The matter went up to the Sindh chief minister and Sindh minister for education, which ended up in the suspension of the administrative officer Ashique Memon.

The district government had called the decision inappropriate while the education department termed it a step in the right direction.

NAREJOS: The relatives of four people who were killed two months ago in a Larkana locality, continued their protest by observing an hunger strike here on Tuesday. They alleged that the investigation wing of the Larkana police were avoiding arrest of those nominated in FIR.

A group of people, including complainant Yusuf Narejo, observed a token hunger strike and accused the SP of the investigation wing, Larkana, and the concerned investigation officer of supporting the accused.
