KARACHI, Oct 8: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) vice-chairman Makhdoom Amin Fahim on Sunday declared that there would be no deal with the government nor would the party compromise on principles.
Talking to journalists at an Iftar party hosted by the party’s information secretary Sherry Rehman, Mr Fahim said since the day the opposition joined hands for the restoration of democratic dispensation and values and to bring the role of the military in accordance with the constitution various agencies had been churning out stories to mislead people and to create dissension within the opposition’s ranks.
He said the recent reports about a secret or back channel deal between PPP and the government were also part of the disinformation.
Mr Fahim, who also heads the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy, said the PPP had never come to power through back doors because it believed in people’s power.
He was confident that the PPP would come to power with the support of people and through free, fair and transparent elections held under a government of national consensus and independent election commission.
In reply to a question about a grand alliance and resignation from assemblies, he said the opposition parties were already cooperating with each other and added that a decision about resignations would be taken after due consideration.
He said the ARD was waiting for the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal to take a decision on quitting the Balochistan government.
With regard to Jamat-i-Islami chief Qazi Hussain Ahmad’s remarks that Makhdoom’s words carried no weight in the PPP, he said all decisions were taken by the PPP chairperson after hearing the point of view of the concerned quarter.
“Every party has its own discipline code and we, as workers of the party, abide by that,” he explained.
