KARACHI, Oct 8: Power breakdowns continued to perturb citizens. especially in the Defence Housing Authority, while the KESC claimed there was no major power breakdown in the city on Sunday.

Citizens in Defence Phase VI said that they had suffered prolonged power outages as the electricity supply was suspended since 7am for at least seven hours.

A resident from Phase VI said that the power supply was suspended at 7am and restored at 2pm. “I continued to dial the complaint number 118 but most of the time I found it busy. Once I managed to speak to the person on the other side who said that it was a cable fault and it would take time to get repaired”, he said adding that how many cable faults would develop in the area.

Mrs Khan from Khayaban-i-Bahria said that the power supply to her locality was disrupted at 7am and restored at 2:15pm and it was again disrupted at 8pm.

She said that it was the first Ramazan when the KESC people had been depriving citizens of power supply for long durations. She said that people had sued the German chief executive of the KESC if he had been in his own country for disturbing their lives and depriving them of power supply for lengthy periods.

“Why does the government not revoke the deal with the private management of the KESC for not delivering the good,” she added.

However, the KESC officials said that the power load-shedding for one hour continued on a rotation basis across the city which would hopefully be stopped from Monday as directed by the federal power minister. About Defence, they said that a cable fault had developed which was repaired later.
