KARACHI, Oct 7: As many as 71 people were deprived of cars, motorbikes and cell-phones in various localities here on Saturday.

Police said 19 vehicles – 10 cars and nine motorbikes – were either hijacked or stolen. No car was snatched but 10 were stolen. Three motorbikes were hijacked and six others were stolen.

Fifty-two mobile phone sets were taken away by bandits. Of them 11 were snatched at gunpoint, 36 stolen and five others went missing. CPLC received a total of 245 complaints about snatching and theft incidents of cellphones, which took place in the past. The CPLC forwarded these complaints to PTA for making the sets disabled.

BANK ROBBERY: Six armed men committed a bank rob-

bery of Rs1.2 million at a private bank in Shireen Jinnah Colony.

Police said six men held the staff of the Allied Bank branch in Shireen Jinnah Colony and took away cash.

An FIR 485/06 was registered with the police but no clue to the suspects had so far been found.

ACCIDENT: A water-tanker, which knocked down a motorcyclist, was set on fire in Gizri here on Saturday by an angry mob.

The water-tanker (AU-1698) hit a motorcyclist near Defence turning. The motorbike-rider, identified as Saeed Ahmed, 35, received fatal injuries and died on the spot.

Area people set the heavy vehicle on fire. However, the driver fled the scene.
