KARACHI: KPT workers hold demo

Published October 7, 2006

KARACHI, Oct 6: A large number of retired workers of Karachi Port Trust staged a protest demonstration at the press club on Friday urging the KTP to pay them their dues immediately.

They said over 1,700 workers had accepted the golden handshake from the KPT and they were paid half of their arrears. They said the KPT had promised to pay them the rest of the amount, but the promise is yet to be fulfilled.

They said the total arrears of over 1,700 workers were more than Rs 840 million, and the workers had been facing hardships in the ever increasing inflation.

The workers were carrying banners and placards with their demands written on them, and were also chanting slogans against the KPT management.
