GENEVA, Oct 6: The United Nations declared on Friday an end to a security alert in Geneva announced the day before when Swiss authorities warned of a possible attack.

“The Swiss permanent mission (to the UN) has just communicated the end of the security threat that existed against the Geneva-based UN organisations,” the UN information service said in a statement.

On Thursday, the UN said that it had been warned of a ‘possible threat’ to the European headquarters of the organisation .

But a letter sent by the UN to Geneva staff went further, speaking of ‘a possible terrorist attack against United Nations’ premises in Geneva’. It said the attack could take place between Oct 5 and 10.—Reuters
