DPO Munir Ahmed Khuhro said that on a tip-off, he along with the TPO and a heavy contingent of police cordoned off the Umrani Larho check-post and stopped a truck loaded with onion.

When they tore open onions bags they found in them 2,820kg of poppy packed in 60 sacks, he said. Police have arrested Imdad and Zafar, driver and conductor, respectively, and impounded the truck.

The DPO said that the recovered material was to be converted into opium and heroin. The initial investigation showed that it was being smuggled from Afghanistan to Karachi.
