KARACHI, Oct 4: Sindh Information Technology Department has planned to establish about 400 IT awareness centres in phases in low-income group localities throughout the province.

This was stated by Sindh Chief Minister’s Adviser on Information Technology Noman Saigal while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of a free IT awareness centre on Tuesday.

Mr Saigal said that the department had already established 40 IT awareness centres in the slums of Karachi and other districts of the province in a very short time.

He said that the objective of establishment of these centres was to enable the poor masses to avail the benefits of IT irrespective of the affordability factor.

He said that his department was striving to bring IT revolution through these awareness centres.

“In the centres, we are not only giving basic knowledge of computers to people but also introducing a variety of software programmes pertaining to embroidery, flower making and different local languages so that the under training women and students may get the facilities and work simultaneously,” he added.

The adviser said that the department was also working on e-government pilot project of the Sindh government, call centre training projects for graduate and undergraduate, e-policing system.

“We are also working on a mega project for establishment of ‘internet city’ on a 200 hectare land where all facilities will be provided to stakeholders under one roof and it will be the IT hub of Asia,” he added, saying that the project will provide job opportunities to thousands of youths.
