LAHORE, Oct 1: Fancied bay filly, Valentine, ridden smartly by jockey Shahid Rehman salvaged owners' pride by winning the Punjab Cup run over 1400m during the Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse before a moderate crowd on Sunday.

Having her second run on the course this season, the odds-on favourite filly, Valentine showed vast improvement to crown a two length victory over second favourite bay colt, Fajr, who battled for supremacy but in vain. Harry Can View and Poly Dunit completed the frame among nine starters after the last-minute withdrawal of the chestnut colt, Chan from this sixth and last race of the day.

Valentine had finished fourth in her first outing this season on Sept 10.

A race earlier, the chestnut colt, Nosha, stretched his winning streak to three in a row by winning the supporting event. He defeated Jut Bahadur by over three lengths. Golden Goal and Big Bird completed the board in a field of eleven starters.

Jockey Shahid Rehman, who is clearly leading jockey's performance statistics table returned home with a brace of winners on Sunday. He sailed in Nosha and Valentine.

He, however, was unlucky to lose the third race when his mount Desert Queen was beaten by a rank outsider gelding, Great Murad in the third race.
