KARACHI, Sept 30: As many as 98 people were deprived of cellular phones, cars or motorbikes in various localities here on Saturday.

Despite the introduction of mobile phone set jamming technology from Saturday by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, 62 people were deprived of their cellphones. Twenty-seven people complained that they were held at gunpoint and deprived of cellphones and belongings. Thirty-two other people complained that their mobile phones were stolen.

A man complained that he stopped at the traffic signal at Gizri when two armed men on a motorbike took him at gunpoint, snatched his mobile phone, cash and other belongings and fled with the loot.

He mentioned that the traffic signal was notorious about snatching incidents, but the police did not put a strict check on the spot.

Besides, 36 vehicles – 19 cars and 17 motorbikes – were either snatched or stolen by bandits.

Police said six cars were taken away at gunpoint and 13 others were stolen while six motorbikes were hijacked and 13 others stolen.
