KARACHI, Sept 30: City Nazim Mustafa Kamal inaugurated newly constructed road from Nagan Chowrangi to Sakhi Hasan on Friday night.
Speaking on the occasion, the nazim said all works were being done under a coordinated plan with special focus on providing better transport facility. For this, he said that work on various development projects was being carried out round-the-clock.
Mustafa Kamal said that a quality infrastructure would attract investment and help provide employment to people and bring prosperity. He said that no limit could be fixed to development process, but all ongoing projects would be completed by the next year whereafter new projects would be taken up. He said that the journey of development should remain continue.
He pointed out that Road-5000 was the widest road of country and its 90 per cent work had been completed. Besides, he said that work on Shahrah-i-Orangi was in progress at a cost of Rs480 million and its one track was nearing completion.
The nazim said that people could see the patch and carpeting work of roads which had been damaged during rains. “With every new day, their problems are reducing,” he remarked.
He pointed out that Karachi was the world’s seventh largest city and its infrastructure too should commensurate with big cities of the world and it was for this reason that the city government started development process on fast track.
DCO Fazlur Rehman, EDO Works and Services Amanullah Chachar, Project Director Taameer-i-Karachi Programme Rauf Farooqi were also present.
STREETLIGHTS: The road linking the Nagan Chowrangi to Anda Mor near Shadmaan Town has been without streetlights since last year.
It may be recalled that work on construction of this two-track road commenced during the tenure of former city nazim Niamatullah Khan, while it was inaugurated on August 2005 by former Sindh Adviser on Local Bodies Waseem Akhtar. Since then the road is opened for traffic, but without a single pole for streetlights.
After sunset, the road remains in grip of darkness, creating a lot of problems for both pedestrians and motorists.
The area residents complained that anti-social elements roamed here during night time. They demanded of the city nazim and other concerned authorities to take notice of this situation and get the streetlights installed at the earliest.—APP/PPI
