KARACHI, Sept 30: The authorised city government officials with magisterial powers on Saturday imposed a collective fine of Rs497,450 on 278 shopkeepers for overcharging and sent five profiteers to jail.

A break-up of the fine amount, with the number of profiteers penalised, is as follows: Saddar Town including Clifton Rs100,400 imposed on 41 shopkeepers; Lyari Town Rs8,500 imposed on seven persons; Jamshed Town Rs26,900 imposed on eight shopkeepers; Korangi Town Rs4,900 imposed on eight persons; Gulshan Town Rs27,000 imposed on 17 shopkeepers; Keamari Town Rs30,600 imposed on 20 persons; Baldia Town Rs14,600 imposed on seven shopkeepers; Orangi Town Rs12,450 imposed on 16 people; Site Town Rs6,300 imposed on 16 people; Gulberg Town Rs26,100 imposed on 23 people; North Nazimabad Town Rs67,500 imposed on 14 people; New Karachi Town Rs51,700 imposed on 21 people; Liaquatabad Town Rs38,000 imposed on 17 people, Bin Qasim Town Rs18,000 imposed on 10 people; Gadap Town Rs13,000 imposed on nine people; Malir Town Rs29,000 on nine people; and Landhi Town Rs90,000 fine imposed on 22 people.—PPI
