Shamshad puts UP in command

DHARAMSALA (India), Sept 29: Rizwan Shamshad top-scored again with a patient 88 to leave India champions Uttar Pradesh in command in their four-day Nissar Trophy game against their Pakistan counterparts Sialkot on Friday.

The 33-year-old Shamshad, who top-scored with 84 in the first innings, led a strong batting display to guide the team to 361 for seven in the second innings at stumps on day three.

The Ranji Trophy champions stretched their overall lead to 416, having scored 316 in the first innings and then restricted the Quaid-i-Azam winners to 261 all out.

India under-19 captain Ravikant Shukla hit a chancy 64 after scoring 54 in his first innings while skipper and India batsman Suresh Raina contributed 55.

Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Asif, sidelined with back trouble after bowling just six overs on the opening day, eased some concern over his fitness for the ICC Champions Trophy after bowling four overs on Friday.
