ISLAMABAD, Sept 29: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said on Friday that the government was exploring various options, including the mass transit system, to solve the transport problem in big cities.

Presiding over a meeting held here to review progress on the Karachi Mass Transit Project, he said the federal, provincial and city governments were coordinating with each other for early finalisation of the project.

The prime minister set up a steering committee under deputy chairman planning commission Dr M. Akram Sheikh to finalise details of the project quickly.

He said the setting up of the system would lead to creation of jobs, generation of economic and commercial activities and development of the state land, he added. He said the government was planning similar projects for other major cities as well.

Meanwhile, he also held a meeting with PML’s secretary-general Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed and Political Affairs Minister Amir Muqam, who called on him at the Prime Minister’s House.—Staff Reporter
