QUETTA, Sept 29: The Jamhoori Watan Party has accused the federal government of denying jobs to Balochistan youths on the basis of the province’s quota in federal services and semi-government corporations.
In a statement, JWP spokesman Amanullah Kanrani said that according to the 1998 census, Balochistan quota in federal services was 5.2 per cent, but the federal government did not abide by the constitutional requirement to provide the province its share in the services.
He said that the local people were also being denied jobs under the provincial government. Giving an example, he said, the post of prosecutor-general in the Balochistan High Court had been awarded to a non-local person though a large number of local lawyers fulfilled the requirements for the job.
Mr Kanrani added the post of deputy attorney-general had been abolished in Balochistan but it existed in three other provinces.
He proposed establishment of an employment cell to ensure that jobless Baloch and Pukhtoon youth were accommodated in the government departments on the provincial quota.
COMPENSATION: Chief Minister Jam Yousuf has said that the federal government will be approached for compensation of losses and damage which the Balochistan University and hospital suffered during riots following the killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti.
He was talking to a delegation from the Balochistan University which called on him here on Friday.
The chief minister said that the estimated loss of buses and library books in the university was Rs170 million, wherein the damage caused to the eye hospital was estimated to be Rs30 million.
Mr Yousuf urged students to focus on their studies and play a positive role in keeping their institutions clean of anti-state elements.
