GUJRANWALA, Sept 27: Police could not recover the body of industrialist Wajid Munir on Wednesday owing to non-closure of canal by the respective authorities.

The investigation team is trying to get the services of divers, however the family of the deceased has expressed dissatisfaction over the efforts made by the police by now.

Reports said Wajid Munir of Fazal Market area was kidnapped a few days ago. The accused demanded Rs3 million ransom for his release, but his family could not arrange the amount. On Tuesday, the police arrested Muhammad Azhar and Usman on the report of the family. The accused led the police to the arrest of their third accomplice Naeem.

During investigation, Azhar and Usman of Dharampura, Lahore told the police that they had called Mr Munir to Lahore on the pretext of a business deal. He parked his car at Data Darbar from where he was taken to Kootha Pind locality and told him of his abduction. On offering resistance, he was hit by an iron rod, which resulted in his death. Later, they threw his body into the canal. However, the accused said they continued demanding ransom from Munir’s brother Khalid Mehmood, a mobile company officer. They said Mr Mehmood traced their location. On suspicion, they went to Gujranwala where Mr Mehmood got them arrested.
