LAHORE, Sept 26: The Punjab Assembly session beginning on Thursday would last for nearly 15 days during which the government would table six bills for adoption.

Official sources said on Tuesday that the session was likely to be prorogued around 20th of Ramazan to facilitate members perform umra and observe Eidul Fitr in their hometowns.

Joint strategy for the session and its agenda would be finalised in agreement with the opposition during a meeting of the business advisory committee being held at 9am tomorrow.

According to Law Minister Basharat Raja, the government would extend all possible assistance to the opposition and listen to its viewpoint during the advisory committee meeting.

The government has however prepared a list of around six laws which it intended to discuss during the session. The bills included the Efficiency and Discipline Act that would replace the Removal from Service Ordinance 2000 and the Civil Servants Amendment Act 1974.

It would also finalise its strategy in its parliamentary party meeting to be held before the beginning of the session.

Opposition leader Qasim Zia said the opposition would finalise its strategy for the session before the beginning of the session.

The PPP would hold its parliamentary party meeting at around 9am the same day, he told Dawn by telephone.

According to the rules, the assembly has to meet for at least 70 days in a parliamentary year.

It has so far met for 45 days and the officials said the shortfall would be covered after Eidul Fitr as the parliamentary year ended on November 25.
