KARACHI, Sept 26: Speakers at a seminar on Tuesday urged the government to take necessary measures to ensure education to every child and implement laws in this regard.

The seminar ‘Don't Alienate a Child from Education’ was organised by the Society for Protection of Rights of the Child (SPARC) in Shah Faisal Town and attended by people from various walks of life.

Addressing the seminar, Sindh Additional Secretary Education Dr Badaruddin Ujjan said children should not be kept away from education. He said the Sindh government was making all-out efforts to promote education, and the dream of a literate Sindh would soon be a reality.

Rana Asif Habib said that the provincial government should formulate a policy to educate the 15,000 children, roaming in the streets and exposed to criminal activities.

TMO Shah Faisal Town Barkaat Ahmed Rizvi said that the city government was trying to make Shah Faisal a model town. He said health and education were among their priorities.

“Educational committees will visit schools and try to solve the problems of children. It is our responsibility to guide them and protect their rights,” he added.

Nazra Jahan, Child Participation Officer of SPARC urged the government to provide schooling facilities to all the children so that the dream of a literate Pakistan could come true.

She said that the SPARC had set up 15 Child Rights Clubs in various schools of the city.

Manager Women Literacy Prof Rehana Mughani, Founder of Mufad-e-Niswan Trust Begum Baji, Member of City Education Committee Shamim, UC nazims, principals, teachers and students of several schools attended the seminar.—PPI
