GUJRANWALA, Sept 25: The family of a BA student who was killed by robbers and residents of Satellite Town demonstrated and took out procession against the incident on Monday.
Two motorcyclists killed Suleman Khalid, son of customs superintendent Khalid Javed, when he put up resistance during snatching of his mobile phone from outside of his house three days ago. But police failed to arrest the killers.
The family members and the residents of the area gathered in the market and demonstrated against the police. Later, they reached the DPO office where they met the acting DPO and told him that the killers were roaming freely in the area and committing robberies.
They alleged that some corrupt police officials were supporting the killers who were threatening people with dire consequences.
The acting DPO assured them that the accused would be arrested soon.
DEATH SENTENCE: The anti-terrorism court No 2 handed down death sentence to four convicts and acquitted three people by giving them the benefit of the doubt in the murder case of 14 people of Madina Syadan, Gujrat, on Monday.
The court sentenced Rafiq Shah, Ahmad Abbas and Wasim alias Maula on seven counts and Ahsan Ijaz on two counts with fine.
The court acquitted Kazam alias Babu, Sher Haider and Fazeelat Husain.
The court declared eight others - Wasim Shah, Faiz Abbas, Islam Ali, Sajjad Musali, Rizwan Ijaz, Ajmal Abbas, Hasan Ijaz and Irtaza Haider proclaimed offenders.
According to prosecution, the convicts killed 14 people over an old enmity at the outhouse of union council naib nazim Fazeelat Husain on May 15, 2004.
SHOT DEAD: A girl was shot dead by her cousin in Lohianwala near Rawalpindi bypass here on Monday.
Sofia, 22, daughter of Tariq, was present in her house when accused Irfan came there and opened fire following an exchange of hot words. She died on way to DHQ hospital.
