ISLAMABAD, Sept 25: Pattan Lok Natak’s four-day campaign of street theatre performances for creating awareness of HIV/Aids among the citizens concluded here on Monday.

Organised with the collaboration of National Aids Control Programme (NACP) the performances were displayed at 12 public spots in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad and were appreciated by masses.

More than 3,000 people were educated about HIV/Aids through street theatres and hundreds of pamphlets were distributed among the people regarding prevention of the deadly disease through precautionary measures.

During street theatre campaign it was strongly observed that people had the know-how about HIV/Aids but did not possess required information and terribly needed penetrating methods for further awareness on HIV/Aids.

The main objective of the campaign was to raise awareness among the common man regarding HIV/Aids.

As the ever increasing number of Aids victims are alarming for the whole world therefore massive awareness campaigns are essentials for every country especially the ones like Pakistan where 160 million people are living.

The campaign was part of the civil society organisations and government’s efforts to create maximum awareness among the masses about the disease.

People warmly received street theatre performances and learnt the preventive methods regarding HIV/Aids. After each performance some of the spectators also asked questions about HIV/Aids which were answered by the experts.

Street theatres were performed at Bari Imam, Aabpara, G-9 Markaz, F-10 Markaz, Rawat, Rawalpindi Saddar, Nawaz Sharif Park from September 21-25.

According to William Pervaiz, Coordinator Pattan Lok Natak, the second phase of the campaign would resume after Ramazan.
