LONDON, Sept 25: A young woman from the northwestern English city of Manchester was charged on Monday with having funnelled money to a terror suspect who was arrested last month, police said.

Mehreen Haji, 25, was arrested by Greater Manchester Police’s Anti-Terrorist Unit on Sept 19 as part of an ongoing investigation.

She will appear on Tuesday at City of Westminster Magistrates’ Court in central London.

Knowing or having “reasonable suspicion” that the money would be used for terrorism, Haji allegedly entered into arrangements under which suspect Habib Ahmed obtained a total of 4,004 pounds in May, police said.

Ahmed, a 26-year-old Manchester resident who was arrested on Aug 23, was charged last week with collecting information about potential terrorist targets and with having travelled to Pakistan for weapons training. He was remanded in custody on Thursday.

It is alleged that Ahmed received weapons training at an unknown location in Pakistan between April and June this year and gathered data on potential targets between January 2002 and August this year.—AFP
