DHAKA, Sept 24: Bangladesh’s leader of the opposition in parliament Sheikh Hasina on Sunday criticised the government for its failure to issue storm alert in coastal areas and rescue fishermen in the calamity that hit the country on Tuesday.

Speaking on the floor, the Awami League chief said: “Her (Khaleda’s) family is perhaps more concerned about protecting their wealth in Thialand after their illegal money was seized in Malaysia.”

Prime Minister Khaleda Zia’s family had business relations with deposed Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, she told parliament. “Her [Khaleda’s] family has businesses with Thaksin, who happens to be a businessman.”

“They [the PM’s family] have made enormous wealth and siphoned off a portion of their fortune to Thailand,” said Hasina while blasting the alliance government for its failure to issue storm alert in coastal areas and rescue fishermen. “Her family is perhaps more concerned about protecting their wealth in Thailand after their illegal money was seized in Malaysia.”
