KOHAT, Sept 21: Disagreement among tribesmen of the Frontier Region of Kohat over the price of their collective property for selling it to the government is impeding execution of development projects.

It is feared that if the tribesmen fail to resolve the dispute over the price offered to them by the government, the projects meant for the area may be transferred to another tribal region.

Assistant Political Agent Riaz Khattak told Dawn that work on the industrial estate approved for the region two years back had not begun because of the problem.

The government has requested local tribal elders to resolve the issue so that the projects can be executed.

The government requires 80 kanals for the industrial estate, which is not available with any individual.

The sites selected by the government are collective property of the tribes who have not reached an agreement on selling the land.

An official expressed the hope that completion of projects like industrial estate, colleges, schools, potable water schemes, weapons showrooms and training centres and exploration of natural resources through modern means would usher in an era of prosperity in the region.

The NWFP governor has ordered satellite survey of the tribal area for exploring untapped natural wealth.
