Nazim ‘implicated’ in drug case

FAISALABAD, Sept 21: The members of city district government expressed their anguish against implication of a union council nazim, Ms Farzana Chaudhry, in a drug case and threatened that they would boycott the house proceedings if immediate action was not taken against the police officials concerned.

The members belonging to different localities of the district had delivered fiery speeches in a meeting of the house on Thursday with Amjad Yasin in the chair.

Ms Farzana, nazim of UC 207, said she was implicated in the drug case by Sargodha Road police.

She appealed to the house to take up the matter strictly so that no-body could dare in future to implicate any elected member in such a case.

Despite instructions, not a single police officer was present in the house which added to the anger of the members who demanded immediate presence of the district police officer who did not bother to attend the meeting ‘owing to some unknown reasons’ and sent a subordinate.

The convener has constituted a committee which would probe the matter.

Tariq Manj, Abdul Hafeez Bawa, Riaz Kamoka, Faqir Husain Dogar, Ajmal Badar and scores of others asked the chair to direct the police department for seeking permission before registration of any case against the elected members.

Mr Yasin pacified the enraged members and directed the DPO to personally appear before the house.

Meanwhile, the house also discussed matters of official vehicles, disposal of solid waste, transport and shifting of truck stands from city to Jhang Road.
