PESHAWAR, Sept 21: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) on Wednesday seized two houses of former MNA and alleged drug baron Haji Ayub Afridi in the provincial metropolis on the orders of the Supreme Court.

Official sources said that two houses of Mr Afridi, situated in a posh locality on the Old Bara Road in University Town, were confiscated after the SC recently rejected the appeal against the verdict of Special Judge for Customs and Anti-Smuggling Mohammad Ayub announced in 1995.

The ANF team with the help of the Frontier Constabulary and local police went to the houses of Mr Afridi and took possessions without any resistance from his supporters and servants, according to these sources.

The defunct Anti-Narcotics Task Force had approached the special court in 1995 pleading forfeiture of Haji Afridi’s property in the NWFP. The task force had charged Mr Afridi with building property with drug money.

The judge had given a verdict in favour of the task force in absence of Mr Afridi. He is still absconding.

Later, he filed an appeal with the Peshawar High Court and when it was rejected, he approached the SC. But the apex court retained the judgment of the special judge for customs and anti-smuggling.

NEW METERS: The chief executive officer of the Tribal Areas Electric Supply Company (Tesco) has said that the company’s financial position has been weakened by the prevailing circumstances in Fata.

“We are facing tough environment in performance of operational duties in Fata,” CEO Engineer Saeed Khan stated at the 8th meeting of the Board of Directors of Tesco at the Wapda House Peshawar on Thursday. Chairman Tesco Khalid Javed presided over the meeting.
