JACOBABAD, Sept 21: A six-member team of the Sindh Local Government Commission conducted annual inspection of Jacobabad and Kashmore districts.

Headed by Anzar Hussain Zaidi, the team stayed here for three days and inspected local government institutions and education and health departments of the two districts.

Talking to journalists at the circuit house here on Thursday, members of the team said that they were of th view that without a comprehensive planning there was no benefit to launch schemes and there could be no success without participation of the people.

The members said it was also the duty of the people to keep their eyes open in all matters. If they continued to ignore, the situation would not change.

The members said that the condition of health and education departments was poor and there was need to correct these sectors.

They said that there was no need to build high rise buildings but the priority must be given to fulfil basic needs of the people.

They said that in Kashmore there was no need to build a large palace for district nazim but to build roads and buildings for the people and the provision of basic needs.

They said that the budget of the Jacobabad district was Rs14 billion of which about Rs10.5 billion is spent on salaries, while the remaining Rs2 or Rs3 billion was insufficient for development, even that went in waste due to corruption.

The members pointed out the example of civil hospital where funds and facilities were available but services delivery was non-existent.

The team also monitored performance of all departments and evaluated the utilisation of funds. It will submit a report to higher authorities.

The team members said that a committee was investigating corruption in the education department.
