ISLAMABAD, Sept 19: The Pakistan-Oman joint naval exercise Thamar Al Tayyab in the Gulf of Oman will conclude on Wednesday. According to a pres release issued by the Pakistan Navy here on Tuesday, a variety of naval units including, destroyers, frigates, missile crafts, and submarines from Pakistan Navy and guided missile Corvette, missile craft, fighter jets and helicopters from Royal Navy and Air Force of Oman participated in the exercise.

‘Thamar Al Tayyib’ is a joint naval exercise held Pakistan and Oman after every two years. Last such exercise was held in Pakistani waters in September 2004.

Admiral Muhammad Afzal Tahir, Chief of the Naval Staff, who is on a four-day visit to Sultanate of Oman on the invitation of Commander Royal Navy of Oman, Rear Admiral Salim bin Abdullah bin Rashid Al Alawi, along with the host witnessed the exercise in the Gulf of Oman.

The Chief of the Naval Staff, Pakistan Navy accompanied by Commander Royal Navy of Oman arrived onboard Royal Navy of Oman Ship by helicopter where he was received by the Commander Task Group. While onboard, both the commanders observed a wide-range of exercises and drills.

Firing by naval units was also part of the exercise.

Both admirals also visited a Pakistan Navy ship and remained onboard for quite sometime.

While on board, they were briefed about the exercise.

The exercise was in progress from Sept 16 to 20.
