GUJRANWALA, Sep 19: Two proclaimed offenders involved in the murder case of ruling PML leader Sheikh Zulfikar Ali Cheeniwala shot and injured his brother Sheikh Azim and nephew Shiekh Latif here on Tuesday for pursuing the case.

Reports said Azim and Latif were going by their motorcycle. Near Model Town, Sheikh Raheel and Asif opened fire on them and managed to escape.

The injured were rushed to DHQ hospital in a critical condition. Model Town supervisory police officer Faiz Ranja and SHO Tahir Farooq Cheema reached the spot, but family members of Zulfikar denied to get a case registered in protest against the police failure to arrest the accused so far.

They alleged that the POs were threatening them with dire consequences and had shot injured one of their relatives a few months ago. They said the police had failed to provide them protection.

insanitary conditions: Nazims of a number of union councils expressed their anger during a meeting in which the district nazim was also present at deteriorating condition of cleanliness and threatened that they would resign if the system was not revamped.

District naib nazim Jamal Hasan Manj presided over the meeting while senior officers of Water and Sanitation Agency and district council attended it on Tuesday.

Nazims Atif Masood, Sabir Mahmood Butt, Arshad Farooq, Tayabur Rehman and Mian Atiqur Rehman criticised Wasa and the city district government and said both the institutions have failed to clean the city. Almost every street was littered with garbage and sewage.

District nazim Fiaz Ahmad Chattha warned Wasa officials to improve the system immediately otherwise action would be taken against them.

He assured the nazims that 15 sanitary workers and a tractor-trolley would be given to every nazim soon.

BAILIFF: A bailiff of the district and sessions judge conducted a raid at Garjakh police station here on Tuesday and recovered a youth who was detained there illegally.

Later, the bailiff produced him before the court.

Reports said the police picked up Qaiser from his house and detained him at lock-up without registration of any case against him. His family members moved the court for his recovery. The court summoned the respective SHO and investigation officer on Wednesday (today).
