KHAR, Sept 19: Two women health workers of the National Commission for Human Development and a passerby were injured in a roadside bomb blast in Bajaur Agency on Tuesday.
Eyewitnesses said that a vehicle carrying the two health workers of the NCHD hit a remote-controlled explosive device planted near Khar Bridge, two kilometres east of the agency headquarters.
Wasia Begum, Rabia Bibi and passerby Noor Sad received injuries in the explosion while driver of the van, Bacha Rehman, escaped unhurt.
Doctors in the agency headquarters hospital told Dawn that Wasia Begum, who suffered grievous injuries, was shifted to Peshawar for treatment.
According to political tehsildar Tariq Hassan no group claimed responsibility of the explosion, but officials were of the view that local militants could be involved in the incident.
They said Khalid Bin Walid group had recently distributed pamphlets asking NGO workers, particularly women, to abandon their activities in the agency otherwise they would come under attack.
PROTEST: Students of the Government High School, Khar, staged a demonstration in protest against arrest of their colleague and blocked the Khar-Mardan road for traffic.
The student had been arrested for alleged involvement in the bomb explosion at a Levy post in Tangi area of Bajaur Agency.
Angry students also tried to proceed towards the main Khar bazaar to hold demonstration but Levy force forced them to disperse.
