KARACHI, Sept 19: A man was shot dead and his brother was injured when they put up resistance to bandits snatching cellphones and cash in the Site area on late Monday night. Police said Mohammad Sharif, 32, and Jan Mohammad were intercepted by bandits in Willayat Colony. They snatched cellphones and cash from them at gunpoint. As the bandits were fleeing the brothers tried to overpower them.

Police said that subsequently the armed suspects opened fire at them and fled.

They were rushed to the hospital where Sharif was pronounced dead while his brother was admitted for treatment, police said.

In another incident, an unidentified young man was killed by unknown men in the Paposhnagar area.

Police said unidentified young man was reportedly snatching a cellphone. However, the victims were armed and shot him before he could take out his weapon.

Area people shifted the body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where they narrated the incident to the police.

Following the postmortem examination, the body was taken to the Edhi morgue for identification.

ACCIDENTS: A young man, Faisal, 22, died in a hit-and-run accident on the National Highway on Tuesday.

Police said the victim was crossing the highway when an unknown speeding vehicle knocked him down. Police sent the body to the Jinnah Hospital for legal formalities.

In another accident, 50-year-old Zainulabidin was knocked down by a speeding bus of route 4-J in the Sharifabad area. Following the accident, the errant driver of the bus escaped, leaving the vehicle behind.

DACOITY: Mohammad Ashfaque was deprived of Rs71,400 by gunmen near his house in Shah Faisal Colony as soon as he reached his house after withdrawing the cash from a nearby bank.

Mr Ashfaq and his wife were intercepted by bandits near Raita Plot after they disembarked from a rickshaw near their home. Riding on a motorcycle, the bandits had been chasing them from the MCB branch at Shah Faisal Colony No 1. The snatched the purse from Mrs Ashfaq at gunpoint.

A report has been lodged with the Shah Faisal Colony police.
