KHAIRPUR, Sept 18: A large number of people from Hingorja and adjoining areas staged a demonstration on Monday to protest against unannounced loadshedding and power breakdowns.

Led by Dr Abdul Fatah Memon of the Hingorja Shehri Ittehad, the protesters demanded an end to loadshedding.

The demonstrators said they had been suffering from unannounced electricity load-shedding for six to eight hours a day for two months, which had disturbed their daily life and business activities.

They said the Hesco engineer had held out assurances many a time to help end the load-shedding, but he failed to extend any relief.

SNATCHED: A young man was beaten up and deprived of cash and mobile phone near Ranipur on Monday.

Reports reaching here said three armed men had stopped a motorcyclist, Imtiaz Hussain Bhelar, on the link road of village Bhelar, beaten him and snatched from him Rs10,000, a mobile phone and other valuables.

The victim is a leader of the Jeay Sindh Students Federation, Sindh University.

KILLED: A motorcyclist was killed and another seriously injured on the National Highway near Gambat on Monday.

Reports reaching here said Mujahid Ali Lashari, and Riaz Ali Channa were on their way from Sobhodero to Gambat when near Gambat a speeding truck hit them.

Mujahid died on the spot while Riaz Ali was seriously injured. He was admitted to the RHC Ranipur.

The Ranipur police have arrested driver Nabi Bux and impounded the truck.

INJURED: A villager, Mohibullah Phulpoto, 40, fell down from the roof of his house where he was asleep on Sunday night.

He was admitted to the Khairpur Civil Hospital in critical condition.

ROBBERY: Robbers deprived passengers of a coach of cash and other valuables.

Sources said five armed men had held hostage the driver and cleaners of a Dera Ghazi Khan-bound passenger coach in Tando Masti Khan on the National Highway and snatched cash, mobile phones, jewellery, wrist watches etc., from passengers and fled.

After the incident, the passengers staged a sit-in against the robbery. No case was registered till the filing of this report.

HURT: A truck cleaner was injured in an accident on Monday near Ranipur.

Reports reaching here said cleaner Ishtiaq Khan of Mianwali was asleep in a truck going from Karachi to Mianwali.

Another speeding truck hit his feet that were sticking out of the truck window and seriously injured him.
