LOS ANGELES, Oct 18: The US House of Representatives on Wednesday approved tough recommendations of the Treasury Department by overwhelmingly passing a law on money-laundering.
The new law will make it more difficult for terrorists, drug traffickers and other criminals to launder money.
However, in a last-minute move, lawmakers dropped a provision barring use of credit cards for Internet gambling — thanks to the tough lobbying by the credit card industry, including Visa USA Insurance and MasterCard.
Among other things, the law called 412-1 has made it a crime for anyone to ‘secretly’ carry 10,000 dollars in cash across the international borders.
