JACOBABAD, Sept 17: A large number of political, social and trade union activists took out a procession against kidnapping of children and encroachments. The procession started from Sarafa Bazaar and culminated at the DCO chowk. Carrying banners and placards, the protesters were raising slogans against police.
Sehri Ittehad president Akram Abro, Small Traders Union president Ahmed Ali Brohi, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam leader Dr A.G.Ansari and Hindu General Panchayat president Lalchand led the protest.
Speaking on the occasion, they said that one month had passed, but police had failed to trace the people kidnapped from Jacobabad.
DPO Munir Ahmed Khurho in a meeting with the relatives of kidnapped people had assured them of their early recovery, but police failed to make any progress.
Small Traders Union president Ahmed Ali Brohi said some elements had encroached upon the vacant land of the city.
Dr A.G.Ansari said the government had held out assurance to supply potable water to the people, but they were waiting for it.
PROTEST: The All Rice Mill Labour Union took out a procession for an increase in workers’ wages and facilities.
The procession started from Anaj Mandi and reached the local press club where protesters observed a token hunger strike.
DPO Munir Ahmed Khurho, Sukkur Labour Union assistant director Sajad Hussain and Sikandar Bhutto reached the spot and talked to protesters.
Labour leaders Mashooq Kharani and Saleem Kharani demanded an increase in wages and facilities. They complained that the labour officer was not available for years to resolve their problems.
Assistant director Sajad Hussain Ansari said that a meeting of rice millers and workers would be called on Sept 25, to discuss their problems and help resolve them.
The protesting workers dispersed peacefully when the deputy director assured them of solving their problems.
